Meet Surfer Rob

Robert Heeley was an impressionistic, "retro" surf artist, drawing inspiration from the nature that surrounded him daily. Growing up on the central coast of California, Rob was always drawn to the ocean, waves, sun, air and lifestyle of a surfer and dreamer.

Rob could always be found somewhere near the water, whether he was surfing, painting, sailing, fishing or traveling. Rob lived the surfers' dream, surfing some of the most picturesque and sought-after surf spots while simultaneously capturing the exact essence of these magical places via oil on canvas paintings, sketches and other media. Robert was a purist, in all facets of his life. Committed to the true nature of surfing, he never surfed with a wetsuit or leash, preferring to take on what nature intended. His artwork has the same classic, committed feel.

Robert's artwork as you see on this website encapsulates his legacy and the beauty in what he saw in the world as he lived each day. His impressionistic, yet retro, 1970s representation of the world's oceans utilizes vibrancy and rich colors that are signature to his work.

Robert was not only a prolific artist, he was always a philanthropist, constantly giving back to his community. As an autistic artist himself, he spent a lot of time giving back to the California Autism Center, whether with his donations, time or artwork.

While Rob had roots in central and southern California, he also traveled the world to places like Hawaii, Mexico, Costa Rica, Indonesia, Alaska and more. He always had one goal: to surf the most sacred spots, and create.
